Introduction

This manual describes a improved version of backprop based on the free version designed to go with my textbook, The Pattern Recognition Basis of AI to be published by IEEE Computer Society Press but with more features for people with more serious needs. This version uses the free Tcl/Tk package from Sun Micro-Systems, see their Tcl/Tk page for details. More than likely you already have Tcl/Tk on your UNIX system, to find out try typing "wish" on the command line, if you get a prompt and not an error message you have it and then to get out, type "exit". One of the advantages of using Tcl/Tk is that to some extent you can change the GUI interface yourself even if you don't know Tcl/Tk.
