We are taking a pivotal step toward a church planting movement in the spiritually forsaken Tenancingo region.
On
June 12, we will install Pastor Richarte to be the Senior Pastor of the
Christian Community Church in Tenancingo. Since we started the church
14 years ago, our plan has been to transfer the lead pastor role to a
Mexican pastor.
Richarte,
one of the first believers in Tenancingo, has been a faithful friend
and developing pastor. From the birth of the church we have worked side
by side, and since his ordination seven years ago, he has served as
Associate Pastor and Elder.
During
the last eight months, we have been engaged in the particulars of
a postive transition. We have also wept, thinking of leaving our
church family that we love. We have rejoiced, believing that
nationals always do it better; Pastor Richarte will lead the church into
its purposeful future.
After passing the baton to Richarte, Kathy
and I will forge ahead with our regional team of Mexican church
planters and Secure Refuge workers into other discarded cities in the
region. We anticipate new joy as we focus on our passion to reach those who have never heard the Gospel.
Our
mission to "Start a church planting movement in the unreached cities
and towns of the State of Mexico" has not changed in 20 years.
During the last 15 years living in Tenancingo Kathy and I have felt peoples hopelessness. Most of the new Christians in Tenancingo come from generations of drunken, unfaithful or violent fathers.
We have helped many, by God's grace, break free from deep roots of bitterness, shame and resentment. We have listened to men and women disclose, for the first time, agonizing secrets of having been sexually abused as children. We have witnessed numerous emotional and spiritual restorations.
A
nine year old girl, from our neighborhood, told her teacher that her
mother's boyfriend had sex with her the previous night. The teacher
reported the incident to the principal. They called
in the mother. The mother denied it happened. No medical check-up was
required, and the girl's story was dismissed as a lie.
We long to see mercy and justice poured out over our region.
