HI,
Please pray this week for college students from Long Island that will be attending our 5 day discipleship camp near Lake Placid, NY I am here leading the work crew that is made of student volunteers who stay this week to serve their peers at camp. It involves long hours of hard work. Two of the students are seekers. Please pray that Kevin and Ray would make decisions to follow Jesus this week. Pray for health, good rest at night and strength by day to serve well.
Please pray that I would serve and lead this group of volunteers with love, patience and wisdom.
Thank you for praying.

Thank you for praying for us. The evangelism training on March 5th was an encouraging day for students to both learn and practice sharing their faith. Some of the student responses are below. Please keep praying that God's love and power will break through on the university campuses of Long Island.
"My experience at Ignite can be summed up with one word: awesome. I could not begin to fathom how much God used all of us there, but he definitely did. With the introductory talks, along with the role-play, my experience of evangelizing on campus was a great one. I really liked that we heard a lot about the topic beforehand and that we actually had the chance to play both roles. It really helped when we went out because I feel we were able to put ourselves in different people’s shoes.
I never realized the power of evangelizing until last Saturday when I went with my {Hofstra} IV to Stony Brook. Our goal was to evangelize around campus. I didn’t really have a clear understanding of what I was supposed to do because I’ve only really done that kind of stuff once before, so it was fairly new to me. I was really nervous, but I was constantly praying that God would give me the strength to do what he wanted me to do. That day, I was able to witness to these two young guys who had no idea what was coming. I kind of had this notion in my mind that I HAD to change their hearts and their minds then and there. But I was wrong; just talking to these guys and simply opening up and telling them what God has done for me, opened up their hearts to talk about what they thought about Christianity and God. It was a great learning experience for me, and I’m glad that God had empowered me to do something awesome like that."
Thanks again for praying for our day, it had a huge impact on the lives of students.

Hi Prayer Team,
Please pray for our IGNITE evangelism training this Saturday. We are holding it on campus this year (StonyBrook) for the first time. We want to combine teaching with listening prayer and then some time out on campus talking to students. Pray for divine appointments, boldness and the power of the Holy Spirit to move.... Our focused goal is to both equip and motivate students to return to their campuses excited to do more contact evangelism with a dependence on the Holy Spirit and Prayer...... Thanks for upholding us in prayer this week and on Saturday if God brings us to mind during the day. Also pray for nice weather so students will be out and around campus!! We would love to see some conversions this Saturday!!

HI InterVarsity Friends,
We have had a great semester of ministry on Long Island. We saw 8 students make decisions to follow Christ. Our chapters continue to grow and provide a witnessing community of believers on campus. God's spirit continues to mobilize and inspire students to grow in their faith and pray for their campus. Some are meeting weekly to memorize scripture together....
Please pray for:
• Students as they finish their finals today and head home for semester break. Many of them will be entering families that are hurting or don't support their faith convictions. Pray for God's Spirit to strengthen them and encourage them. Pray also that they would find strong Christian fellowship while home and that they would continue to give and serve their families.
• Pray for our year end finances, all our staff is part time and either working second jobs or trying to raise full support.
• For our staff team to grow. We will be having a recruiting event tomorrow (Sat. 12/18) where prospective staff will travel together by bus to 3 different campuses and have an opportunity to gain vision and calling to New York and New Jersey college campuses. Pray specifically for Chelsea Whitfield, a Hofstra student who is thinking about the possibility of coming on staff with IV.
And Praise God for the following:
• Almost 400 students being ministered to in our Area
Adelphi 31
Hofstra 49
Merchant Marine Acad. 145
Nassau Comm. Coll. 33
NYIT 29
StonyBrook 100
• 6 Newly elected leaders at Hofstra, ready to begin serving in January
• The 8 new believers that have decided to follow Jesus just these past 3 months.
Thanks for your partnership in prayer. We are very thankful for the semester and all that God has done to start this school year off with momentum and promise of growing ministry in 2011.
Merry Christmas....May you have a worshipful experience in celebrating this Advent Season!!
Love Dan and Donna Brady

Thanks ...
Thank you all who prayed and gave toward students attending the Big Event this past weekend. We had over 12 conversions and 4 of them were students from our Long Island campuses. Below is a great story of what God did in the life of two Stony Brook Students.
We believe Jesus is the only way to God. It’s a controversial statement on campuses filled with adherents of other religions, but as our chapters grow in size and in evangelistic confidence, we continue to see people of other religions find life in Jesus.
Olik was a Muslim student who came to The Big Event last year and confessed he wanted to "see the light." In January of this year, Olik "saw the Light" and received Jesus as his Lord and Savior. Olik grew in truth and his love for Christ is so evident. When he found out The Big Event was nearing, he asked if he could donate money towards scholarships to help students come. (Olik not only donated money to help 10 students go to The Big Event, he also volunteered as a small group leader in the foundations track- a track for non-Christians and new believers!) Olik also made mention of his friend, Armon, a nominally Hindu student whom he invited to come.
Armon wrestled with what he was learning the entire weekend but he also made sure he asked people to pray for him and with him. Sunday morning Armon stood up to make a decision to follow Jesus! We celebrated with the angels! Please pray for protection as his family is not yet aware of his decision. Pray against family backlashes and separation. Pray that the InterVarsity chapter at Stony Brook continues to be a support for him as he learns what it means to grow in Christ. New Christians sacrificing their time and money to help others find Jesus – what could be a better sign of new life! And you who prayed and gave to also help people experience Christ's transforming power this past weekend.... Thanks for staying in touch and being a part of what God is doing on the campuses of Long Island through InterVarsity Christian Fellowship !!
In Christ,
Dan Brady

This past December 27th through January 1st InterVarsity held its tri-ennial mission’s conference called Urbana. Over 17,000 students from across the US as well as dozens of foreign countries gathered in St. Louis. MO to experience what God has been doing in the world. There was a call to commitment on the final night with thousands of responses to take next steps in moving toward personal involvement in foreign missions. You can explore what happened during those 5 days be going to urbana.org where you can view dramas, podcasts and testimonies from college students. Thousands of lives were moved toward missions. Many said it was the strongest Urbana in the past 20 years..God's Spirit was moving powerfully.
Please pray for students as they continue to wrestle with what it means to be world Christians, living in very affluent university communities... while the poor and disadvantaged of the world need to experience the love and truth of the gospel.
Next month we will be hosting our annual evangelism training conference (Ignite 2010) for Long Island students. Pray that individual students, as well as whole campuses would be transformed in their witness and passion to share the gospel.
Thank you again for your ongoing partnership in prayer and giving. We are seeing exciting growth both in numbers and depth of Christian commitment. Below is an excerpt from a letter one of our staff sent out recently. It was commenting on the sense of revival they were seeing on campus....
.....Let me share something very exciting. We are noticing a grass roots movement among the students, and it's wonderful. So far 30 students have asked for Bible memory packets and they are memorizing scripture. There are a group of students who are spontaneously forming prayer groups. And we have a group of students who are forming a group to witness to students. We get the feeling that the Lord is really moving on campus. We are just watching while God works.
Keep praying for these young adults as they transform their campuses and change the world through their evangelism and involvement in global missions. They are also the future leaders of the local church.
Love, Dan and Donna

Thank you for praying for our student leadership training camps these last three weeks in May. There were over 300 students during week 2 when Hofstra attended. We sensed God moving both across whole chapters and also in the lives of individuals. Our text was the life of Moses and what it means to be called out and sent forth.
Chapters made faith filled plans and goals for reaching thousands of new students this coming fall. We felt God's Spirit challenging students to think more strategically and with greater faith.
Thanks so much for partnering with us in prayer.

Hi Friends,
Tomorrow I leave for 7 days of camp with InterVarsity college students for training and discipleship. Please pray for God's Spirit to meet each one of these young adults in a personal way. That they would be reminded of God's unconditional love and respond with deeper longing for Him and a growing desire for service and surrender to His Lordship and leadership.
I will be working in the Leadership track with students who will be directly impacting the growth and direction of their fellowships next year.... Pray for wisdom, love and insight as we pray, set goals, and believe God to continue to use us to grow His kingdom on the college campuses of Long Island.
Thanks for your partnership through prayer!

Over the years God has taken us through many peaks and valleys as we have persevered in collegiate ministry here on Long Island. Now we are beginning to see a tremendous growth and moving of His Spirit on campus. Our chapters are growing and two new campus ministries have been launched at N.Y.I.T. and the Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point. Our national office has recognized this growth and offered us a one time matching grant of $8,000 to help us make our budget this year and continue to move forward without losing momentum. Our funding is down due to the economy and reduced giving by many. Please pray that God would provide once again for our needs and keep us in a posture of growth and service to this growing number of students. The matching grant is active between now and June 30th, 2009.

We are seeing a lot of fruit in 09. Already this year we have had 6 students come to Christ. Our area is growing in overall student numbers and there seems to be a spiritual energy that is moving in new way among students... below is the story of Sarah coming to faith, just a day after our evangelism training Feb. 20-21st as told by Michelle (IV is a reference to InterVarsity)
“Sarah is one of Rebecca's (she attends IV) floor mates and she has been going through some really rough and emotional hardships. Any how, I became close with Sarah and started playing basketball with her at the REC Center. I saw that she was running to alcohol to fill her needs and was really crying for help. I was able to relate to her on those levels which gave me a platform on which to minister to her. On Saturday she asked me to go play basketball after the retreat because she was really upset. I asked God that if he wanted me to initiate a salvation talk with her, that he would just prompt me and speak through me, so, when I met up with her she was already upset and we managed to get to the topic of God. It was right then that God nudged me to ask her if she wanted Christ and she said yes, so I led her in prayer, she repeated what I said and then immediately after she said "I feel so different, I don't feel alone". Sarah has lots of Christians around her and I know God has been trying to get her attention for a long time. She plans on attending IV more often now.”
We are very excited and humbled by what God is doing. The other reality is that our finances have really taken a nose dive. The economic situation has affected our income level. We are praying for wisdom in next steps as we may have to make some radical changes in the months ahead..... Please pray for us that we would trust God and be obedient to whatever He has for us. It is frustrating to think about reducing our time with ministry just when it is beginning to really take off and grow the way we always sensed that it could over the past 18 years... We know God is able to provide, we simply need wisdom to know how to proceed.
Thanks for staying in touch and highlighting us in your bulletin from time to time. It means so much to have you giving and praying for us.
In Christ,
Dan & Donna B.

Dear Windy City Family, Thanks you so much for the generous Christmas check in the mail last week. We are having Donna’s side of the family here for a big Christmas reunion. 22 people in our home for a week! There will be lots of extra mouths to feed so the money will be able to provide for that need. You have always been a thoughtful and caring church. Thanks you for continuing to make us a part of your family. We love you all and continue to be blessed by what God is doing through the church. We Miss You!

Dear Family and Friends, The summer weeks are quickly passing. I’m still reflecting on May and June. Two separate year-end events brought great encouragement and the affirmation of many of our prayers. In May, InterVarsity held its first discipleship track devoted entirely to prayer. Over 100 students signed up to spend a week learning about the transforming power of prayer. I was one of three staff who helped develop and lead the track. We designed the track with a vision to have students spend at lest 50% of their time in prayer. God truly transformed them. Students were hearing from God in new ways as we practiced the discipline of listening (an often forgotten form of prayer). They heard God speak into their own lives, as well as the situations they were praying for others. One of the days we took a road trip to a local upstate university to pray over the campus. Students learned the history of the school and prayed over specific buildings and student dorms. By weeks end they all had sensed that God had changed them and called them to strengthen the prayer ministry back on their own campuses. It was a blessing to lead them and see God daily work in their lives. In June I began conversations with a local college that has a Christian student group interested in affiliating with InterVarsity. In the coming weeks that partnership may become official. We have been praying for several years that God would raise up new fellowships at some of the surrounding schools in our area. We are very excited about this group joining our Long Island Area Team. Pray that God would continue to open doors for this partnership to happen. Pray also that InterVarsity would become a blessing and encouragement to these newly affiliated students. In about a week I will be meeting with the Long Island staff and leading our planning meetings for the coming school year. We are motivated to continue to invest deeply in prayer, evangelism and chapter growth. Please pray for our time as we listen to God and plan out much of the coming school year’s ministry (August 9th-10th). We will be participating in the Willow Creek Leadership Summit in the morning of those days and then doing our praying and planning in the afternoons. Thanks you again for your prayers and financial support. They are reaping great fruit for God’s Kingdom on the college campuses of Long Island!!!

What could be more exciting that seeing over 22,000 college students seeking to clarify God’s calling on their lives? Only one thing comes to mind for me…..imagining these same students living more focused and redirected lives as they serve over seas and in the marketplace, building God’s kingdom, proclaiming Christ’s truth and love!! My working assignment this Urbana was to provide healing prayer with over 120 other staff. We prayed individually with students who came forward with needs concerning their vocation & calling, brokenness in their families, and healing from sexual sin. It was a privilege to witness God’s gracious restoration in their lives. Winter has been an exciting season on campus as well. When the weather turned colder, we set up a service table in the student center at Hofstra University. We gave out information and free hot Starbuck’s coffee to those passing by. Our goal was to be visible and serve others with the love of Christ…We met many new students and poured lots of coffee. Recently a Hofstra football player came to our weekly meeting. He has been leading a bible study with other athletes on campus. I’m hoping to encourage and equip Joe as he reaches out to his teammates. Pray that he and some of his friends attend our upcoming IGNITE retreat. We are holding this retreat to strategically train specific students. We are praying that God will renew their vision and deepen their commitment to seeing their campus as a mission field. They will be equipped and challenged in sharing their faith and developing specific plans to reach out to others with the gospel. Our focus will be on student leaders as we gather about 22 students from 4 different campuses. We will do some bible study and teaching on listening prayer. Pray that God stirs the hearts of student toward more consistent and spirit filled witness; that they would do this together in groups and see the power of the gospel unfold in the lives of those living around them in the dorms and beside them in class. Please keep praying for the Long Island university community and the moving of God’s Spirit across the life of each student, faculty member and administrator. Pray that our conference would truly “ignite” our hearts with new love for Jesus and a growing desire to answer His call to be ambassadors of love and truth to others. For the gospel, Dan and Donna

Faithful witness Dan Brady, I love that description of Jesus Christ in Revelation 1:5. It reminds me of his steadfast testimony to God’s love, grace and truth. It invites me to a life of discipleship marked by witness and worship, truth and grace, love and service. And, frankly, it makes me think of Dan Brady’s ministry with InterVarsity in Long Island. The unreached people in Dan’s mission field question what they believe, who they believe, and why they believe—on a daily basis. They find their values, thoughts, and activities questioned by every authority figure, every friend, and in every situation. And they are seeking relationships, meaning, and purpose. Why reach out to these people? Tomorrow, they will lead every business, every government, and every culture-shaping institution in every nation in the world. Today, however, they are just university students; open to nearly every thought and idea—but not to the Gospel. InterVarsity Christian Fellowship exists to introduce these students to Jesus with power, authority and relevance. They may be the most strategic mission field in the world. For over 15 years, Dan has established and advanced witnessing communities of students on the college and universities of Long Island. As the Area Director for Long Island, Dan equips staff and students at key university centers like SUNY-Stony Brook and at strategic local schools like Nassau Community College. He has helped generations of students respond to the Gospel, grow in Christ likeness, and become faithful witnesses themselves. As Dan’s supervisor, I admire the way he models integrity, humility, and determined Christ likeness at home and on the field. He prays faithfully, repents graciously, and leads wisely. Dan reminds people of Jesus. We need someone with Dan’s maturity, experience, and insight to lead our work in this difficult mission field. Thank you for your on-going support of Dan’s ministry in Long Island.
Sincerely Gregory L. Jao

Dear Friends and Family,
Last night my daughter went to the mall. She needed to purchase a gift for a friend’s sweet sixteen birthday party. This morning her American eagle shopping bag was sitting on the kitchen counter. I glanced past the bag’s glossy picture of young, tan, playful teenagers and instead searched for the nearest coffee mug. But as my eyes moved away from the bag, I was captured by the slogan printed alongside the picture. It was three simple words. “Live Your Life.” I wondered. What are the alternatives to not living your life? That led me to think about the college students we work with. So much of life ahead of them, but so few who are truly living. We all struggle with this some. We let our fears hold us back from life. Marianne Williamson speaks powerfully to this in the quote below. “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” Jesus said, “I have come that they might have life, and have it to the full.” I thought of the masses of young adults that enter the university system every fall, nearly 25,000 incoming freshmen on Long Island alone. Another saying of Jesus came to mind. “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” InterVarsity on Long Island is ready for change. I want more students to find that narrow road. I recently committed to the goal of doubling our student numbers over the next four years. My prayer is that many of these new students come through first time commitments of faith. I am passionately committed to seeing students find the road that leads to life, living life to the full, living the life Jesus died to give each one of them. Toward this end, we are boldly embracing the reality that through Christ, we are, “powerful beyond measure”. Therefore we will be: Contacting 750-1,000 new students at each campus the first week of September. Within 24 hours following up at least 150-200 who are interested, inviting them to our first meeting. As the semester progresses, we are hoping to retain 75% of these students. This would bring our average campus chapter size to approximately 75-100 students. Praying for 5-10 new believers at each campus who will choose to follow Jesus. To reach this goal I believe God to provide the necessary funds to sustain this effort. Please pray with me for $15,000.00 in needed financial support. Perhaps you are in a place to give a special one-time gift this month. Please pray with me for a stirring of His Spirit in the hearts of student leaders this summer. Pray for a strong incoming freshmen class. Pray that in the power of His Spirit, all of the above will come to pass. May it be so! Dan & Donna

Going Farther With Jesus “He went a little farther, and fell on the ground, and prayed.”
Mark 14:35 I have been challenged these past months to pray with greater focus and faith. Jesus demonstrated a need for prayer. In the garden of Gethsemane He invited the disciples to pray and keep watch. He tried to communicate the urgency of the hour, but Peter James and John could not comprehend it. They fell asleep; more than once! Is there urgency in these days that Jesus is calling me to recognize and pray over? Am I “sleeping” in my distractions and business? These questions have been on my spirit lately. I am trying to commit to more regular and focused listening prayer. Nassau Community College is one of the largest public colleges in the state of New York with over 22,000 students. It needs our prayers. Please make some time to pray specifically for: • Students to follow God’s lead in sharing openly of God’s work.
• More Christian students to get involved on campus.
• Conversions this spring semester as students share their lives and faith stories.
• A new believer who converted from Islam and is being rejected by his family. Our Long Island staff team is taking a retreat in April to pray and plan for next year’s ministry goals and pursuits. Please pray that we would hear God’s voice and follow His Spirit. We have some important decisions to make. Your intercession will be important and much appreciated. The dates are April 26th-28th. Thanks again for your partnership, prayers and encouragement! Our annual chapter camps are coming up in late May. These weeks are strategic for both evangelism and discipleship as student from over 30 campuses gather together. There will be preaching, worship, witnessing, ministry planning, discipleship and prayer. Please keep these weeks in your prayers as well, asking God to bless richly. Pray that students would make decisions of faith, turn from destructive patterns of sin, decide to live fully for God, and believe Him to grow their fellowships back on campus. Thank You !!

Thanks to all of you for your prayers and support, your love and faithfulness to the Gospel. Keep moving forward!! You are doing a great work at WCCC!
Love, Dan & Donna This past fall I heard an interesting observation on American culture. It was stated that Starbucks has officially become our “third” place. We have our homes, we have our workplace and we have Starbucks. What is it about Starbucks? How does a national chain of coffee shops, about 20 years old, displace the local church as our “third place”? What is it that lures us into this growing java kingdom? I came up with three answers: Starbucks isn’t work, but it helps us wake up and get to work…American’s love to work. There is nothing like a strong shot of espresso to boost our productivity. Starbucks isn’t home, but its décor is familiar and provides a place for community and conversation that gives us a sense of family and belonging. In most cases, the doors are always open, at least between 6am and 10pm. Starbucks is accessible, it fits our lives. I’m praying that InterVarsity becomes a “third place” for students on campus. Small decisions made in these critical years often redirect entire lives and produce significant change over time; affecting the workplace, home life and the local church. As God’s word influences a single life, he influences all the expanding networks that grow outward from that one life. I’m committed to seeing InterVarsity be a stable presence in young adult lives, helping them to make Godly decisions. I’m writing to challenge you with an important decision. We currently have an opportunity to receive extra financial help by way of a matching fund designated toward our personal support. During the months of January and February I am trying to raise an additional $5000 that will them be matched for a total of $10,000. This would greatly help us overcome our current deficit. Perhaps you can find a way to give a one time gift in the coming months. The less time I have to spend raising financial support, the more time I have to give to staff and student programming. Maybe you can take a month “off” of Starbucks and use the money to help us continue to meet the spiritual needs of college students. Thanks you for taking the time to consider this request. Thank you as well for your prayers as we continue to build a network of Christian fellowships on the college campuses of Long Island. Sincerely in Christ,
Dan Brady

“This, the first of his miraculous signs, Jesus performed at Cana in Galilee. He thus revealed His glory, and his disciples put their faith in him.”
Nothing like stealing the show with a miracle… The story simply begins with a casual reference that says, “On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee.” But wait a minute. For at least two people this was one of the most important days of their lives. Everyone was there for them: gifts had been purchased, food had been prepared, and guests had dressed with celebration in mind. What should have been a sidebar story, “Could you believe they ran out of wine!” became the unveiling of the very glory of God. My reflection on that passage simply puts Jesus enjoying the celebration: the smiles, the hope of a new marriage, the gathering of family and friends. He wanted the banquet to continue without interruption and with plenty more wine. Still, a miracle is a miracle. The power of God was now an undeniable experience in their midst. His Glory was revealed. His journey as the Divine had begun. I have prayed for years to see God break through the unbelief that so permeates Long Island culture, Long Island universities. It hasn’t come. I’m still waiting. I’m still praying. We’re surrounded by water; a little wine right now would be very refreshing! I’m thankful for the hundreds of lives that have been changed through InterVarsity’s presence. Still, it seems to only brew a holy indignation as I think of all the others that are not being reached. The following are names of unbelievers that God has brought to our weekly meetings at four campuses here on Long Island, (Vicky, Randell, Hau, Winnie, Simone, Becka, Mirian, Mazaher, Aoka, Joey, Cheryl, Jana). Please join me in praying for Jesus to turn their unbelief into the wine of faith and regeneration. And that a tide would turn, that belief would become contagious, that celebration would break forth as captives are set free and new life is poured out! Please pray with me over another concern. After over 14 years serving with InterVarsity, we are facing our most serious financial deficit. Due to the changing situations of several top donors, our support has dropped off significantly this past year. We need to raise about $30,000 in order to meet our budget for this fiscal year (ending June 30th). We remain convinced that God continues to call us to persevere in this work. Already this fall, over three dozen students have come to faith across our region. Almost every week a new conversion story is told. As C.S. Lewis wrote in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, we sense “Aslan is on the move”. Please consider the possibility of making a year-end contribution that would help us to stay in ministry here with InterVarsity. So where is the power now? If Jesus cared enough to turn water into wine, shouldn’t He care enough to transform Long Island’s colleges and eliminate our need to raise financial support? He probably would do it in an instant if it wasn’t for a greater concern…His Glory. It is often in our weaknesses, that He is most glorified. When He is glorified, when He is lifted up. He will draw all peoples to Himself. Our greatest concern is for His glory. Whatever the future holds for us, we want to continue to life Him up, and be active in the harvest of drawing all peoples to Him. Thank you for your prayers and partnership! May you find the miracle of His incarnation in this Christmas season. Love, Dan & Donna

As the semester winds down and students finish up their finals and head home, please remember to be in prayer for the following.
1. Praise God for Randell who just came to Christ last week. Had been in an investigative bible study this fall and decided to follow Christ just over a week ago. Pray for him and other students who may be going home to unbelieving homes this holiday.
2. Pray for our national black student conference that will be begin in just over a week donw in Atlanta. (Dec. 27-31)
3. Please pray for the new student leadership team at Hofstra. They will be serving for the next calendar year as they lead their fellowship on campus. (Lauren, Ariel, Carrie, Pascale and Gabrielle)
Thanks for your prayers, hope you all have a worshipful Christmas season!!

Dan and Donna write that one way they have loved students recently is through serving them at their fall conference called “The Big Event” held on October. This is an annual retreat that gathers students from all around the metropolitan area. They experience God’s word through creative drama, video segments, penetrating talks, fellowship with one another and God’s beautiful creation. Many students were moved to repentance after the Saturday evening program. The talk addressed the parable of the seeds and the soils. Students were given individual packets of seeds and one by one they came up and sprinkled them into the soil that currently represented their heart. The exercise helped students connect in a physical way with the spiritual reality of where they were living. After dropping their seeds, the students passed under a veil signifying the covering of God’s grace and forgiveness. The evening concluded with healing prayer and worship that focused on our freedom in Christ. It was a powerful night that God is still using to challenge students in their love for Him and for their neighbors. They ask for prayer for their upcoming national black conference December 27th-31st in Atlanta, Georgia. They hope that many students would attend from Long Island.

Hi Friends, Please pray for our freshmen outreach tomorrow (Labor Day) at Hofstra. We will have a table at the activities fair from 1-5pm and then a special gathering later that night from 8-10pm for all those who showed interest in learning more about IV. We will have some light food, live music and a free book given to every freshmen there. We are praying for 20 new faces as well as some returning fellowship members for a total over 30 or so. Pray that God would direct students to our table, quicken their conscience and usher them into our presence to meet them and encourage them. Sometimes it is a spiritual battle just to make contact with the Christian students on campus. Pray that they also connect well with each other and come away excited about InterVarsity and ready to serve the campus and grow in their faith. I will be speaking briefly for about 5 minutes to challenge the freshmen to remember God in these years and see their time on campus as a unique "missions" opportunity to invest in the lives of their fellow students.
Thanks for your prayers, I appreciate them and am more and more convinced that most advances come only through concerted and consistent prayer by the saints. We need you!!
Thanks Again,
Dan Brady

“Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things,
which you do not know.”
Jeremiah 33:3
Do you often find yourself settling for much less than what you feel God may desire to do through you? I know I do….. It could be in my marriage, my parenting, my neighborhood or my ministry. I read in Jeremiah 32:27 “I am the Lord, the God of all flesh. Is anything too hard for Me?” and I answer, “No Lord.” Yet when I face difficult situations I begin to qualify my belief in God and lower my expectations of what God can really do. That way it is not my faith that is lacking, it was just something God chose not to do…. and I am not to blame!! It is one thing to believe God could perform a miracle in the bible, or a thousand years ago, or even in the life of a friend; it is quite another matter to wholeheartedly believe God can do anything He chooses to do in/through my life!!
When almighty God speaks to me, what I do next proves what I believe about Him, regardless of what I say. Am I willing to move forward with God, trusting Him with the unseen? Too often I stay back and want to walk by sight and not by faith. I refuse to do what God tells me unless I can see all the resources in place first.
I always seem to evaluate this area of my Christian walk in the summer months. Maybe I have more time to think. Maybe my year end (academic year) reports inspire deeper reflection. Am I satisfied, content with what God did on campus this year? Yes and no.
There was witnessing and conversions…..but not enough. Students were discipled and challenged to live more completely (holistically) for God, but too many still seem to live for themselves. As the Long Island team planned for this fall, we sensed God was asking us to move His hand and see some God sized work begin. We believe our chapters can grow significantly and we are believing God to increase all our chapters to over 40 students in the year ahead. We would like God to start a new fellowship at one of the many local colleges that don’t have an InterVarsity chapter. I sense God wants us to be thankful but not satisfied. He wants us to celebrate the past year and work hard toward an even better one in 05-06. He wants our work to affect the whole of Long Island and move out to other parts of the world. That’s big, that takes a lot of faith and prayer. That scares me!!! But God is able if I am able to trust, pray and obey.
Do you sense there may be far more that God wants to do through your life than what you have been experiencing? Ask God to show you what it is, then be prepared to respond in faith and obedience to what He tells you!! Please Pray for us, as we pray for this Island and its 2+ million people!!!
Because He is able,

Just before the school semester ended they held a meeting at Camp Lake Placid and over 350 college students from around the state attended. Dan and Donna have decided to make a year to year commitment to InterVarsity on Long Island which will include the coming 2005-2006 school year and hopefully beyond. They raised about half the additional $10,000 needed for this year.
