Felix Mendelssohn

The famous German composer, too well-known to need an introduction.

Incidental Music to a Midsummer Night's Dream
Boston Symphony Orchestra and Chorus
with
Arlene Saunders, Helen Vanni and Inga Swenson
Conducted by Erich Leinsdorf
RCA Victrola 7816-2-RV, ADD

This was one of my favorites as an LP and it is one of the few CDs I have where the re-engineered sound is much better than the LP! Generally I don't like words mixed in with the music (I hate opera!) but here the small pieces of text read by Inga Swenson add to the beauty of the music. In case you don't know this music includes the traditional wedding march. This is a great CD for playing in the evening.
